Althuraya for Consulting and Training implements training and awareness activities with partners to develop the following skills:

Ensuring that grain stores and silos remain free of any pests by enhancing the technical capabilities of those in charge of these facilities (silos, port warehouses, large private sector warehouses, etc.) through the acquisition of the following technical skills:

Preventing any infestation from reaching the warehouse by:

  • Breaking any links between the pest source and the warehouse.
  • Early warning and alert systems for the potential arrival of a pest.
  • Comprehensive identification of stored grain pests, their risks, life cycle, and rate of reproduction.

Types of Pests Affecting Grains and Flour (Insect Pests)

  • Pests that reproduce only on grains.
  • Pests that reproduce only on flour.
  • Pests that reproduce on both grains and flour.
  • Pests subject to quarantine regulations.

Non-Insect Pests

  • Other pests affecting quality, such as Stink bugs.
  • Fungi and wheat diseases in storage.
  • Microorganisms associated with pests.

Preventive and Precautionary Treatments

  • Treatments for empty warehouses.
  • Cleaning and treatment of the warehouse surroundings, such as yards and pathways.
  • Treatment of handling equipment, transportation, and previously used grain and flour bags.
